Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is biggest entertainment launch of 2012 with over $500 million sales in 24 hours

Activision released the latest version of their shooting videogame, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on November 13, 2012. Within 24 hours, the game has grossed $500 million in revenue, a new record, and has become the largest entertainment launch of 2012.

Millions of fans attended the launch on more than 16,000 retail stores to grab the copy of their favorite game, CoD: Black Ops 2.

CoD Black Ops 2 has left behind Halo 4 as it has first-day sales of more than $500 million, whereas sci-fi action-shooting game “Halo 4” was launched a week earlier and had sales of $220 million in first day. The Halo franchise has only been available on the Xbox 360 and on PCs, while Call of Duty is available on every gaming console.

Activision said on Friday that it believes the new “Call of Duty” would be “the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth consecutive year.

Mitchell expect that the sell-through on (“Black Ops II”) would be strong enough that it will beat last year’s launch (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3).

Despite the record-breaking sales of Black Ops 2, Activision still remains cautious about the rest of 2012 and 2013 due to the macro-economic environment.
