On 4 October 2012, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook has now 1 billion active user a month. He said that Facebook is now used by one billion people in the world every month, and one in every seven people of the world use Facebook.
Facebook reached 900 million active monthly users in April 2012. Two years and three months ago, Facebook hit half billion active users. Facebook continued his growth like fire with 600k users joining Facebook every day. Due to that massive growth pace, it didn’t took Facebook more than two years and three months to hit 1 billlion users per month mark.
Facebook has recorded 1.13 trillion Likes, 140.3 billion friend connections, 219 billion photos and 17 billion location check-ins since it launched in February 2004. More than 300m photos are uploaded every day on Facebook.
On reaching that milestone, Mark Zuckerberg on his personal timeline said,”Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.” Mark showed further interest in taking Facebook to the next level as he said,”I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.
While there is no single competitor to Facebook yet, Richard Broughton, head of broadband at analysts Screen Digest pointed to services and upcoming social network like Salaam World, which is going to launch in November and would hopefully sign up 50 million Muslim users within three years.
Facebook has recently launched paid posts for individual users, which allow their users to promote their news in their friends news feed on just for 7$.
Facebook has also launched a video advertisement on their achievement of 1 billion user. The digital video ad titled: The Things that Connect Us was released on Facebook official page. The video was directed by Alejandro González and until now, has received over 534K likes and 131k shares.
